I was out shopping for a watch for XXXXXXX and was visiting one of my favourite pre-owned watch shops in Singapore – Tootokei in The Bencoleen.
I have known the owner for years and bought one of my favourite
watches from him – a Sandoz Submariner – for about $165, years ago. I have also sold or bought a few other watches from him over the years and have always gotten an honest and fair deal.
He had the usual Rolex’s, Tag’s, Omega’s and IWC’s on display but I was looking for something a lot cheaper but with an Automatic movement that was fairly robust. I have been looking at Hamilton’s on ebay and online watch sites for weeks as I thought they fit the bill nicely i.e. good quality watch, stylish, robust and with an Automatic movement.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that he had this Hamilton Khaki Navy GMT displayed discreetly on a shelf in the back of his shop. It had been put on consignment sale early this month for $390. It was more than I wanted to pay for it and so after some good natured haggling I managed to get the price reduced to what I was willing to pay.
It came with full set of box and papers and the original unused stainless steel bracelet as the previous owner removed it and used a high-quality black leather strap (which I have replaced with a similar one).
Just like my post about my son’s Luminox a few minutes ago, whethere pre-owned or brand new, there are some great bargains out there if you ware willing to take the time and know where to look.
Here’s some information on what I think is a great watch:
