Rolex Submariner

I have a love hate relationship with Rolex Submariner’s

I think they are great watches but I “hate” them because every man and his dog has one, so much so that I was sitting in my office one day in 2010 and in the course of about an hour, no less than 3 co-workers walked by my office sporting Submariners.

This encouraged me to trade in the Submariner I had for a gold and stainless steel GMT Master the next day. Problem solved (or so I thought)….

I was in Saigon over the weekend and came across the watch pictured above. It was a shop I had visted before and this watch was on sale for less than $4500. Tried it on, haggled with the shopkeeper on the price and got my ‘regular guy’ in Vietnam to confirm it’s authenticity and ended up buying it at a good price.

What I am going to do with this watch? Well I am going to be in New Zealand and Australia for the next 3 weeks. At the end of that time I will decide if I will sell it – as I am quite sure I can make a 5% – 15% profit or replace it with a watch in my regular collection as I am in the process of selling a few of these to make way for some new watches.

I am still undecided at this stage so I guess we will have to wait and see.
