Bought a nice ORIS Divers Date off a Singapore Army regular who sells watches in his “spare time”. Good guy to deal with and the watch was as advertised on ebay.
Only needed to do two things with it. The first was to get it polished so that it would look almost as good as new. This normally costs about $50 – $75 dollars in Singapore but I managed to get it done for $30 from a shop I go to regularly at The Bencoleen. (As an aside, this normally costs less than $10 in Saigon but of course if I wanted to do this, I would have to wait until I was next in Vietnam).
The other thing that it needs is an extra link. It currently fits a size 17 – 18 wrist but Olivier (the friend whom I bought it for) has a size 19 wrist.
Went to the ORIS Service Centre in Singapore which is located at Keypoint Building in Beach Road and found out something interesting.
I wanted to buy one link for the bracelet BUT ORIS told me that if I had the links from the original bracelet, they would replace the entire bracelet with a new one FOC. It seems that this original bracelet, which is used on a number of ORIS models, has a design flaw and globally, ORIS will replace (without costs) a brand new bracelet – if you have all the links.
Unfortunately, since the watch was bought from a 3rd party, I did not have all the links and had to settle and buy an extra link for about $35.00.
If you have a similar style ORIS, hurry down to your nearest agent and get the bracelet replaced FOC ASAP!
