Where to buy a watch in Singapore

My buddy DS sent me what I thought was a really funny BBM yesterday. He asked me if I knew where to buy a watch in Singapore. :).

For those of you who know me, you would find this funny as well. Anyway, I thought I would put together this short list of a few good places that you can cover in about one afternoon if you want to go. It is not an exhaustive list as there are places in Lucky Plaza, Orchard Road, Far East and many more where you can find what you are looking for. These are just some of my more popular haunts and broken down into a few categories.

New Watches for Under $1000

(1) Superchrono – #02-03 Sim Lim Square. The shop specialises in NATO and ZULU straps, unusual and / or home country models of Japanese watches and sports watches like Luminox.

Last year we bought a Tissot Sea-Touch, straps, a very unique looking Seiko 5 Military watch and a couple of watches from them. All at good prices.

(2) If you head across the overhead bridge on the same level as Superchrono, it will bring you across the road to The Bencoolen on 180 Bencoolen Street. In the Bencoolen you can find about 6 shops that sell new (mainly Japanese brand) watches like Seiko, Citizen, Casio, Sandoz, Skagen. Prices are very competitive as competition is fierce and business is brisk.

(3) If you can’t find what you want at the Bencoolen you can head over to Prestige Time in Bras Basah Complex. 3 generations work in this family run business and they are always willing to negotiate on price. Bought about 4 watches from them last year and their prices were the best.

Previously Owned Watches

The Bencoolen is also the first place I probably head to if I want to buy a Previously Owned Watch.

(4) My favourite shop is Tootokei located at #01-36. He is more like a friend than someone I transact business with and I have bought and sold numerous watches from him and ALWAYS gotten a fair deal.

(5) Unique Time De Watch at #01-88 is another shop to check out. Always my second stop after Tootokei. He is more of a watchmaker / repairer and so the selection is not that wide but prices are very reasonable. Closed on Sunday

(6) A shop with a wide range and good reputation is Championtime. Bought Craig’s Panerai from them in December. Prices are a bit higher but all watches are in good or nearly mint condition.

You can find Omega Speedmasters for under $1500 and Omega Moonwatches for about $2200 and heaps of other Rolexes, Panerai’s, Tag’s and all sorts of mid to high end brands at The Bencoolen.

(7) Chuan Watch at #01-51 in Golden Landmark Shopping Centre on Victoria Street is where I would head to if I wanted to buy a Rolex. Bought my first gold Rolex here and about a number of other Rolexes and Omegas for the family over the years. Selection has widened and as you will see from their website, they are a bit more upmarket.

(8) Ken Vintage Watch, KB Watch and a couple of other shops are located in Golden Landmark as well and they are worth a look. For example I picked up a half gold Rolex 1601 from there in December for about $1100.

New watches above $1000

(9) Finally, if I wanted something between $1000 – $20,000 I would head over to Watches of Switzerland in Vivo City or as a last resort Sincere Watches in the same building. Mind you once you head into 5 digits there are any number of shops in Singapore that would be willing to help you spend your money and I would do more research if I were buying something in that price range.

Finally, ALWAYS remember that all of the above shops will negotiate on price! Depending on the brand and model this can be anything from 5% – 40%.

If you have any questions, drop me an email and happy shopping!

  1. Hi, any ideas where I can get a fairly good price for a pre owned Rolex sea-dweller 16600? in Singapore? (year 2005 and above)

    kind regards,

    • Jay,

I would try Chuan Watch in Golden Landmark.

They are always my first choice for pre-owned Rolex.

If you still have difficulty finding one or if you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to let me know.

      Regards / Raymon

  2. Hi,

I was thinking of getting a watch for my lady.Price between 500 to 1000. Any brand to recommend and any reliable shop ?

    • Charles,

For that price range I would go to either the Bencoolen in Bencoolen Street or Bras Basah Complex. There are a number of shops here and they have a decent selection. You could also try Superchrono on the 2nd floor of Sim Lim as they have some more unique pieces in that price range.

If you want to stretch your budget to about S$1500.00, you can actually get a Rolex 6694 in good condition. The shops in the Bencoolen or Chuan Watch in Golden Landmark will have such watches. If you have trouble finding one, let me know and I will point you in the right direction. I hope this information helps and if you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to let me know.

      Regards / Raymon

        • If it is a very popular / newer model, often there is very little leeway. Say about 5% of just lowering it to the nearest hundred. Their prices are good anyway especially when you consider their reputation and the service you get when you buy a watch from them. If it is a less popular model or if the watch in stock for a long time, you can often get a better deal.

  3. Hi Ray,

I will be visiting Singapore in a month and would like to explore the pre owned vintage market there. Is there any other places that you would recommend other than the ones listed above ?

And I will be in Jakarta and Bandung for next month as well, would be great if you can share with me some info on the vintage market there.

    Thanks in advance.

    • Bamz,

There are a couple of other places I would go to around Singapore as well but these are single shops in different parts of the island so it depends on how much time you have. It also depends on what sort of vintage watches you are looking for i.e. higher end like Rolexes or more mid range like Rado, Titoni and Longines. Let me know and I will try and provide more details.

There is a great place to buy watches in Jakarta. Please type in Jakarta on my blog and you will see what I wrote about this a while back – http://raytime.ozlady.com/255/buying-watches-in-indonesia/

I am not sure about Bandung so if you do find a place, please let me know and I will add it to the blog.

I hope this information helps and I look forward to hearing from you.

      Regards / Raymon

  4. Ray,

I will be in Singapore for a week and I grew up there, so I have plenty of time to check the shops around and I am familiar with the country.

I am quite new to vintage watches, I will be looking for watches that is under SGD$1k. And in the process learn more about mechanical watches and the vintage market and will be looking to buy watches like a JLC Memovox, Universal Geneve Tri Compax or a Pre Moon Speedmaster in a year or two. I prefer classic/dress watch design.

I am exploring and learning at the same time and it would be great if you can provide me with the list of the shops in Singapore. I dont mind if the shops are not in my criteria yet as checking them out would be a great experience and learning curve for me.

On Bandung and Jakarta, I will update you again.

    Thanks for the info Ray.

  5. Hey, I’m trying to find out a good place to purchase new Longines watches. Especially this model L2.693.4.51.5. Do you know where is a good place to start?

    • Poh,

Are you based in Singapore? If you are, you can go to Watches of Switzerland at Vivo City and look for either Jaz or Momo. Just tell them that I sent you and they will be help you.

  6. Hi, I’m looking for a mechanical watch that requires winding in the range of <$500. I'm new to this and not really sure where to start looking. Any recommendations please?

  7. Hi

Any idea where to get cheaper brand new Tissot watches?

I’m looking at Tissot V8 for my man.

Or do you have any recommendation for a swiss chronograph watch priced around $500?

  8. Hey Ray,

It seems, you know everything there is to know about watches, and I know absolutely nothing. So hope you would help me.

I am going to USA to meet my sister and brother in law for the first time after their wedding. I wanted to buy a watch for my brother inlaw under SGD500.

Can you recommend me a brand which is in my price range and has a respectable name in the market. Can you also let me know upto what percent I can negotiate on the brand you reccommend.

Hope you find the time to help me

    • Seema,
      Thanks for your email.
If you want something within that price range you have a few options.
New Watch – Tissot is possibly one brand to go for if you are looking for a new watch. Go to the shops on the ground floor of Bras Basah Complex. You can get up to a 30% discount depending on the model.
New Watch – If you want Japanese or something a little less mainstream, go to Chronotime on the 2nd floor of Sim Lim. They have made in Japan Seiko’s and Citizen’s and also a few unusual European brands.
Previously Owned – Go to either the Benocolen or Golden Landmark.
If you have more specific questions, please do not hesitate to let me know.
      Regards / Raymon

  9. Hi Ray,

I checked with Official Rolex shop and the best price they could offer is about S$10900.

Visited Chuan Watch website and noted that they offer really good price for Rolex, especially for this model which Im keen of getting (Rolex Submariner 116610LN) at S$9600, brand new.
Thus, I’m skeptical on the Chuan watch offer. Keeps me thinking if it’s really brand new watch. Would need your kind advice.

    • Amelia,
If Chuan Watch says it is brand new and has never been used you can trust them.
Two things could have happened. The watch could really be from Rolex and BNIB, never been used but with the purchase date from Rolex stamped on the warranty card. Take a look at the warranty card when you are there.
Another could be a watch with no stamp on the warranty card. IT will still have the retailers name on it but no date stamp They will stamp the date when you buy the watch.
Either case is fine. (a) it is unlikely that there will be anything wrong with the watch during the warranty period and (b) once you buy it and wear it once it will be “second hand” and (c) even if you are out of warranty, Chuan Watch will probably rectify any issue there might be with the watch.
Don’t worry. If you like the watch and the price at Chuan Watch, go ahead and buy it.

  10. Hi Ray,i was refered by a good frien who speaks highly of u regarding getting good watches,i know nuts abt watches.i have a budget of $5000sgd,would like to get a 2nd hand rolex,CLASSIC type, more for business wear.plain white face,no gold.may i know where n which model would u recommen? i saw one at MAX pawnshop selling $4750,classic,she told told its made in year 2003,oyster perpetual automatic, they got 2 similiar ,one with the glow in the dark ($4400),the other normal ($4750).so wat do u recommend?

    • David,
      Thank you for your note.
I would not recommend buying a watch from a pawnshop. They normally mark up their prices and the watches they sell may not have been recently serviced or come with a guarantee. They also probably do not offer a guarantee buy back. You have a very healthy budget so you can pick and choose what you want to buy.
I would suggest going to Chuan Watch at Golden Landmark or Unique Time at the Bencoolen. They will have a good selection and can offer you a slight discount over marked prices.
You should look for something with crystal glass and no pinholes. That is the classic look you are going for. The newer Rolexes are slightly bigger and have a different buckle design but they will cost more than $5000.00 as well.
I hope this information helps. If you have other questions, please let me know and I hope you will update me on what you end up buying.

  11. thanks ray, yes i jus bought a rolex fr vincent watch, the ladyboss service was excellent and she explained everything in detail before i decide which one to buy. i got it $5900 after discount. by the way, why she ask me not to get box,and she wil discount further $100? isnthe box important?

    • David,

Some people will pay a premium for a watch with a box but this is few and far between.

What is more important si that the watch comes with paperwork. Did your watch come with paperwork? Is is OK if it does not but a watch with paperwork can cost a couple fo hundred more.

The important this is that you like your watch and enjot iy for many years to come.

      • raymond,it comes only with a receipt.stating it is authentic.anyway i really like tis watch as well as their service, even if i want to purchase watches,i will definitely buy from them. once again, tks Ray.keep in touch.

  12. sorry Ray, i mentioned wrongly, not vincent, its chuan watch. tks , i got exactly wat i want n like thru ur recommendation,u r really helpful.

  13. Hi Ray,

Do u have any experience with Heirloom at Riverwalk? Is that a shop u would recommend for vintage watches? Thanks!

    • Cindy,
I had not heard of them until I received your email.
Just had a look at their website and it looks quite impressive.
I will try and check them out over the next few days and hopefully be able to provide you with some useful feedback.
Sorry I could not be of more help.

  14. Heirloom would be Shawn’s place. Yes, he is reliable. I have bought several items from him. He serves mostly regulars, and contributes a watch piece to the Business Times once a year.

    • Kelvin,

Thanks for the feedback. I have been meaning to check his place out but have not had the time to do so.

      Regards / Raymon

  15. Hi i wud like to noe where to buy rastafari adidas watches? Seems tt its an old model and i cant get it anywhere in adidas outlets

  16. Hi Ray, I’m trying to find out a good place to purchase new Longines L2.739.4.71.3 watch. Do you know where is a good place to get it?

    • KH,

For Logines I would go to Watches of Switzerland at #01-19 Paragon, 290 Orchard Road, Singapore 238859 and look for en.

      Tell him I sent you.

  17. Hi Ray,

Was told by my friend to get an opinion from you before deciding on a watch.

I am looking for my first watch, am actually deciding on the steel green submariner. But having second thoughts now, after seeing the great price difference on pre owned rolex. Does pre owned rolex still comes with warranty? And which rolex submariner make is recommended if I intend to get a pre owned.

And lastly is it possible to get an preowned AP royal oak for 15 grand?

Thanks for your help in advance.

    • James,

      Thanks for your email.

Depending on how old the watch is, most pre-owned Rolex will NOT come with a warranty from Rolex but most reputable shops will give you a 1 – 2 year warranty.

Any Rolex Submariner holds its value well.

A pin hole sub will cost about S$5000. A chapter ring model about S$6500. The models with Ceramic bezels are newer and of course cost a little more so it depends on what you like and what your budget is. For example, I am in Dubai at the moment and I am travelling this week with a pinhole sub with a very, very strong patina on it’s Tritium dial. Because of the aged look many people will be turned off but there are collectors out there who really like this look. So it all depends.

If you are looking for a used AP or your first submariner, I would recommend Chuan Watch.

I hope this answer helps. If we can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to let me know.

  18. Hi I’m looking for a place that sells a new longines model L2.786.5.76.7 at a good deal. Do you know the rough cost I can get this watch at?

    • Sarah,

I would try the shops at Bras Basah Complex. If you want to go a little “upmarket” you can try Watches of Switzerland”.

  19. Hi Ray,

I came across your website. I did find your knowledge of watches and shops to purchase them in Singapore is very good. Could you be please recommend me some places where I can purchase a Tissot Brand New and Preowned in Singapore.

    Thanks for your help.

    • Thanks for your post.
I would try Waterloo Centre or Watches of Switzerland in Vivo or Paragon. Just look for Momo or Zes and mention my name and they will help you out.
Not that many previously owned Tissot’s out there. Tissot watches are generally not very expensive to begin with so the resale market is not really that big.
      I hope this helps.

  20. Hi Ray.

Am looking for a new ladies watch for myself. Any suggestions for watch, price range from $500 to $1000? Initially I planned to get myself seiko or tissot. But then start to hesitate among different brands, tag heur maybe? Typical girls thought. Haha. Hope to receive your kind advise soon C:

    • Becky,
Thanks for your question. I would go for a Tissot, Longines or Tag however there are very few Tag Heueur’s around for less than $1000 nowadays. Seiko’s make great watches but they just don’t feel “special”.
Not sure if you saw my post abut the Issey Miyake Trapezoid, that’s another possibility if you want something a little ‘funky’ I got one for my sister and wife a couple of Christmas’s ago.
You could also look at previous owned watches. Selection on ladies previously owned watches are smaller but for $1000 you could even get Omega’s or Cartier’s at that price range. Chuan Watch and Tootokei (if you are in Singapore) will have a small but nice collection of ladies previously owned watches.
If you can stretch your budget to $1500 you can even get a very nice and updated Rolex 6694.
I hope this helps and if you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

      • Hi Ray.

Thank u so much for your advise. I googled Rolex 6694, not bad but will it looks good on a 23 year old girl? I was wondering… Haha. And then now i start to consider of buying Rolex as my first watch. Saw Rolex Explorer, quite okay for me too, i like simple yet nice watch. Ray, what would you suggest me if i can adjust my budget to $2k? By the way, yeap, I’m from Singapore C=

        • Becky,
The 6694 is actually very popular in the Japanese market and worn by young ladies and Japanese flight stewardesses.
You can see a lot for sale at The Bencoolen along with the Rolex Explorer as well.
I would go for the Rolex, or an Omega if you can raise your budget up to S$2000.00
          Sorry for the slow response.

    • Raj,
      Thanks for your note.
I would try Sincere Watch at VivoCity.
There are also pre-owned watch dealers who may have a BNIB Rolex that you are looking for and you might be able to save some money this way.
What model specfically are you looking for?
      Regards / Raymon

  21. Hi Ray,
I shall be in Singapore from 7th to 13th October. I would like to but an omega watch at Singapore. As I am not well versed with Singapore watch shops so I will be grateful if you can guide me with this purchase. My budget is USD 1900 and would love to have a Seamaster Diver 300M watch ( gents). Pls also advice where I can get better discount from the marked price. As I shall be flying out on 14th hope I can get GST refund.
    Many thanks.

    • San,

      Sorry I missed your message.

I am presuming that you have already left Singapore? I hope you found what you are looking for.

      Regards / Raymon

  22. Hi Raymon, thanks for sharing your knowledge so willingly. I’m keen to purchase an pre-owned Omega Speedmaster but there’s a wide variation in the mechanisms used. Are you able to advise which would be preferable in terms to function and price? I tried reading up online but ended more confused. Haha
I’ll definitely be checking out Bencoolen one of these days. 🙂

    • WL,

I assume you mean the Speedmaster moonwatches?

There are essentially two movements. The Cal. 861 and Cal 1861. Both are fine and it depends how much the seller wants for it and the condition of the watch overall.

I have a 861 from the early 70’s that has just been serviced for about US$2200. That seems to be about the market price.

  23. Hi Ray, would you buy a brand new longines or second hand Rolex? With a budget of 3-5k, how much would a brand new casual master collection longines cost? And where would you advise I get it? Thanks vm

    • Monica,

I would go for the 2nd hand Rolex. It will keep it’s value and has more “street cred.”.

If you do want to go for the Omega, please look for my friend Zes at Watches of Switzerland at Paragon and tell him I sent you.

  24. Hi ray,

I’m deciding if i should get omega 50th speedmaster 1957pcs limited edition watch. Do you think its worth getting a brand new one at sgd11.5k?

    thx man,

    • Jon,

My personal opinions is NO it is not worth it.

I really like Omega moonwatches but Omega has been milking its successful models to death and keep coming up with slight design variations on what are actually much “cheaper” watches and asking for exorbitant sums.

  25. Hi Ray, could you advise whether can i get a pre owned omega seamaster with a budget of 2.5k at golden landmark? I am from singapore btw, thanks for the advise in advance.

  26. Hi Ray,

I am interested in getting myself the Seamaster Planet Ocean GMT GoodPlanet – (Model 23230442203001). From the reviews, it is good so far. What is your opinion on this watch? Or would you rather take Rolex Sub?

And where can i get the best discount in Singapore among the many shops? And would you know also a store that offers installment plans?

Thank you for your assistance on all our queries here! It is a big help!

    • Allan,

Yes the GMT Planet Ocean is fine but you may want to note that co-axial watches normally cost more to service and many watch punters say there is little, if any improvement in accuracy between a co-axial movement and a “conventional” movement.

I have also seen some negative reviews around the “6-hand” Co-Axial watches i.e. that they damage easily when exposed to slightly “extreme” use.

Last things to note are that (i) the Submariner holds its re-sale value, (ii) has a sterling reputation in terms of reliability, servicing and parts availability and (iii) has more street cred (or at the very least easily identified) by other watch users as a “premium” watch to own.

      I hope this helps.

      • Hi Ray,

Thanks for your feedback. The submariner though costs more than my current budget especially that i prefer the green sub.

You have mentioned the reliability and good reputation of chuan watch on this thread. Can i ask though how come their price is considerably much much cheaper than the boutiques for a brand new watch? and if i get one from them can i require a sealed box to guarantee a brand new watch? It is very difficult to distinguish a brand new to a pre owned one if not sealed.

        Thank you for your help.

        • Allan,
Chuan Watches get parallel imported watches on occasion or watches that are traded in by customers and they are aware that the cannot charge as much as Rolex since we would buy direct if that were the case.
It is unlikely that they will be able to give you a watch in a sealed box as they will have to inspect the watch when they receive it BUT if they tell you the watch is unworn you can take their word for it.
          Regards / Raymon

  27. Hi Ray,

Thanks for your valuable feedback. In the end i settled for the explorer II white. By doing so, i think i have made the right choice!

    Again thanks for your help!

    • Allan,

The white explorer II’s are fine and you are probably aware, a slightly larger version is still being sold by Rolex today.

Enjoy it in good health and thanks for keeping me updated.

  28. Hi Raymon,

First of all, thank you so much for being a great resource and for sharing your knowledge.

I wanted to get your advise- I live in Houston TX but travel to Singapore every year.

My budget for a watch is about US $12k and am totally open to used, my caveat is value; i’d like to own a watch for about a year or so, and then trade it for something else, but get a watch that i can either break even or hopefully appreciate a bit in value so that its a win for me.

There is a watch dealer in houston who has a IWC Portuguese 7 day power reserve in Red Gold. (absolutely LOVE it). Reference # is IW500113. Its used, with no box/papers (trusted watch shop) that i can have for US$12k.

    Two questions i have are:
    1. In your opinion, is this a good price and will this watch hold value for a few years?
    2. I also love Rolex Daytonas, is the Daytona a better investment in terms of value hold and resalability/trade in strength? I’m partial to Gold, any models you would recommend that have appreciation potential?
    3. Do you believe i’ll get a better deal in Singapore, say, at Chuan, plus save on tax through GST refund?
    4. Is it not a smart idea to get a watch of this price without papers/box?

Obviously a very long string of questions, so i really appreciate any input and thoughts you might have.

    • Jake,

      (1) IWC’s are great watches BUT unfortunately do NOT hold their value as well as say a Rolex or Omega.

      (2) Yes, the Daytona – especially Stainless Steel hold their value better.

      (3) You will NOT get a GST refund for a used watch in Singapore. You will only be able to get a GST refund on new watches.

      (4) Generally, I would NOT recommend getting a watch at that price without papers / box.

I hope this answers your questions and if I can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to let me know.

  29. Hi ray,

Thanks for sharing all these stuff with everyone.

Like to ask you what are your thoughts on the bell and ross brand.

Do you think getting it would be worth it? And if yes, are there dealers around that deal it secondhand? As I’ve told by ADs that their value doesn’t hold well at all and that buying secondhand for it makes more sense.

Like to really hear your thoughts on knowledge on the BR, thanks.

    • Chan,

      Thanks for your message.

I like some of the Bell & Ross models. Their vintage look models look like IWC’s and some of their newer instrument style watches are really cool. Unfortunately though, B&R watches do not hold their value so I would recommend buying a previously owned model if I were you – if you can find one.

Because there are not that many B&R watches sold to begin with, there are few available on the used market. You may have noticed I talk about a B&R vintage on my blog. I actually picked it up (for free) after my friend threw it away. I got it repaired and my son has been using it since.

  30. Ray … Thank you for your kind advice with regards buying watches in Singapore. I am just wondering (for a newbie numptie like me!) is there a difference between a local AD and an overseas AD stamping on the warranty? I just want to be sure that the warranty is valid in Singapore …

    • Unfortunately there is no hard and fast rule as to whether a warranty is covered internationally or not. It depends very much on the specific watch brand.

      • Ray … Thanks! I was hoping for advice on the Rolex warranty. Some of the places you have recommended offer watches with warranties stamped from overseas AD … does that matter to the eventual resale value or the warranty honoured by Rolex AD?

  31. Hi Ray

I visit Singapore in April and looking for my 3rd breitling, bentley models as well as a 1st for my lady. Any specific dealer you recommend – I’ve noted all that are listed on breitlings site

    • Dan, The dealers listed on their site should be able to help you. You can also try Watches of Switzerland at Vivo City. Looks for Momo and say that I sent you. Regards / Raymon

      • Thank you sir! Also, any recommendations or issues in bringing watches back to US? I plan on bringing 2 but maybe 3. Unsure how any vat/tariffs (ur: vat refund at departure airport with USA passport?) work when bringing in country.

  32. Dear Sir,

My name is Joey and I am 20 years old. I am a fan of luxury watches and my favorites are Rolex and Patek Philippe. I came across your blog post and you seem like a wealthy man. I have always wanted to be wealthy and have my own collection of watches. I am from a poor family and I can only fantasize about luxury watches. Will you be so kind as to teach me the ways to be wealthy? I am really clueless.

    Joey Chng

  33. Hi Raymond, I am new to luxury watches and I am keen to get one (open to both new and pre-owned watches). I love the designs of watches such as the Submariners and Speedmasters. How do I determine what I should get? What should I look for? and where should I get it? Thank you in advance.

    • Kevin,

My decision making process is quite simple. Do I like the watch or not? If I like a design and it sits well on my wrists and I can afford it, I buy it.

If you have the budget for a Rolex, go for it. They hold their value better and just fit well.

Most places in Singapore will give you a good deal. I would buy pre-owned and I would try the Bencoolen or Golden Landmark.

Let me know how you go and happy hunting!

  34. Hi Raymond, I am also, particularly interested in the new Omega 8500 movement, Planet Ocean. Where can i get these? and at what costs? Thanks so much

  35. Hi Ray,

I wanted to purchase a Rolex 116713LN. However, I can’t decide between a pre-owned one (1 year old) or a brand new one considering the price difference of 11% from the new one. Both are from a reputable dealer.

Secondly, would 116713LN be able to hold its value better than the 116710LN?

    appreciate your expert advise, regards

    • Clifford,
If you are looking at a 2013 or 2014 model at 11% less than YES, I would say you should go for it.
The 116710ln holds its value better than the half gold model as it is a more popular style BUT I think the half gold model is more unique.
      Regards / Raymon

  36. Hi Ray,

I am interested to buy the Rolex 116713LN, but not sure whether to get a pre-owned or brand new piece from a reputable dealer. The price difference is about 11%.

    appreciate your expert advise.

  38. Hi Ray

Are there any issues in bringing watches back to US? I plan on bringing 2 but maybe 3. Unsure how any vat/tariffs (ur: vat refund at departure airport with USA passport?) work when bringing in country.

  39. Dear Ray,

I am contemplating to own either a Rolex, Panerai or an Omega watch. My budget is SGD$5,000 – SGD$6,500. I reside in Singapore. Is it possible to get a brand new one instead of pre-owned? Does Chuan Watch in Golden Landmark offer that kind of pricings?

    • Shav,

You should be able to get a new Omega for under that price and you will definitely be able to get a pre-owned Rolex or Omega with your budget.

Yes, you can definitely find something at Chuan Watch for something in that price range.

      Good luck!

  40. Ray,
I am looking at new / pre-owned watches for my gf with a budget of $1500. Any recommendation? I was thinking of Tudor. Please help

    Thank you

    • Lim,

A Tudor would be an excellent choice.

You can also try going to The Bencoolen. They may have some pre-owned watches that fit your budget.

Good luck in your hunt and please let me know how you go.

  41. Hello Raymon,

A pre-owned 18K Yellow Gold discontinued model Rolex Ladies DateJust President 69178 (Circa 1996 – 1997), selling at S$10,500.00, is this worth buying?
I wonder why the price is so much different from a brand new one?

    Please advise.

    Many thanks! 🙂

    • Eve,

Sorry for the very late response.

Yes, that is the price for this watch and they do not hold their value as much as other Rolex models as there is a very small aftermarket for this model and Gold watches are not “in” at the moment.

  42. hi, i m looking for a watch. currently looking at this particular brand Tissot. do a bit research, saw tissot have this model which has the powermatic 80. so is good to grab this model or there is other model like le locle as they r in the same price range? where has most collections in tissot? tissot a good buy for a starter?

    • Herman,

Sorry for the very late response.

Tissot is a good starter watch. You can get as much as 30 – 40% depending on the model.

Hope you found what you are looking for and if you have any questions, please let me know.

  43. Hi Ray,

I am thinking of getting a brand new BR01-93GMT or BR03-94 Carbon Orange, where can i get it in Singapore? What is the price like and how much discount should i expect from BR watches?

  44. Hi Ray

I am a newbie to the world of watches. I am thinking of buying a Patek Philippe watch. A reward for myself afterall years of work, something I can wear for business and perhaps pass on to my son in time. My budget is <20k something simple, mechanical but with date calendar. Grateful for your advice on where is a good place to buy the watch. Or if you have views on other watches I should consider, I would certainly love to hear from you. Thanks!

    • Dino,

Firstly, sorry for the very late response.

I would try Chuan Watches if you are still on the lookout for a previously owned watch.

  45. Hi Ray! I’m looking to purchase the Tissot PRC 200 Quartz chronograph, with stainless steel bracelet. Where should I go to purchase it and how much discount would I be able to get? Not too sure how much I should expect when visiting shops.
    Thank you!

    • Yun,

For a watch like that try the smaller retailers at Lucky Plaza for example or Bras Basah Complex.

You should be able to get as much as a 30% discount.

Sorry for the late response and let me know how it goes.

  46. Hi Ray,

First off, thanks for your insights and recommendations. It’s a great resource.

I’m here in Singapore and looking to buy a Jaeger Lecoultre stainless Master Geographic. I’m not too fussed if it’s new or used (in good condition).

I have started with the JL boutique, however they will not negotiate past 10%, which is very disappointing, but not unexpected.

Any tips about which dealers above might be more flexible on price for this brand?

    Best regards,

  47. Hi Ray,
I am looking for New Ball watches in singapore.Which would be preferable place to buy.my budget is 2k and below.od

    • Thomas,

Sorry for the very tardy response. Please look for Momo at Watches of Switzerland at VIVO City.

  48. Hi Ray,

I am planning to purchase an Omega Seamaster Professional 300m Co-Axial (Older Model with Ceramic Bezel) in the coming months. May i know how much of a discount will Momo at Watches Of Switzerland Vivo be able to provide?

  49. Ray,

I’m mulling over my first relatively expensive watch purchase (I currently only wear an Orient classic watch for work which I bought for less than SGD 200).

I really like the Breitling Superocean 44. I’m cognizant of the fact that Breitlings don’t hold its value as well as Rolexes. This matter aside, what do you think of this watch? It seems to be a solidly built watch at a reasonable price ie cheaper than a Rolex Sub or Omega Seamaster. Happy to hear your thoughts.

    • Mak,

Nice watch. I believe one of the reasons why they are cheaper than a Rolex or Omega is that it uses a COSC certified ETA movement instead of an in-house movement.

Given the price and that Breitling is a “good” brand, I would buy the watch if I really liked it.

  50. Hi Ray, do you know where I can get a new Omega Seamaster Professional in Singapore? This will be sort of my first “nice” watch but prices seem to have soared since I set my eyes on them a couple of years back. Would there be anybody preferably from an AD you would be able to refer me to? (keeping my fingers crossed for a nice discount) haha

    • George,
Yes OMEGA prices have gone up and in my opinion they are overpriced.

You may want to consider a previosly owned option BUT if tihs is your first nice watch then of course you might want something brand new as a momento.

You can call my buddy Zen at watches of Switzerland 97381439. Just say I gave you his number.

Good luck and let me know how you go.

  51. Hi Jay,
    Thanks for the great post!
I’d like to buy vintage (1960-80s) omega seamster or constellation. Would it be possible to get them under S$500? Can you recommend me any store specialized in those vintages?

    • Hi,

      Thanks for your support.

You can try the shops at the Bencoolen or Golden Landmark.

Getting good pieces that are 40mm or larger (which is fashionable now) is getting almost impossible to find at that price. If you like the smaller sized models – 36mm and below than you may get lucky.

Please let me know how you go.

      Regards / Raymon

  52. Hi Ray,
seek for your advice, would you get a brand new longines or a pre owned Omega?
and what is the disadvantage / adventage of a discontinued model watch if its a pre-owned?

    • Mandy,

I would get the pre-owned Omega.

Longines do NOT hold their re-sale value as they are not as mainstream.

If you are buying an Automatic watch, you will always be able to get it repaired however if your discontinued model is not very popular or if it is an odd shape you may find it difficult to get some external parts like bracelets, dials and crystals.

Which specific model are you after?

  53. Hi Ray – stumbled across your blog in researching pre-owned Rolex Submariners. Planning to get one as a wedding gift to my man – it is his “dream” timepiece. I have no experience buying luxury watches so I’ll be glad of any help – E.g., Which model would you recommend btw these two:
    114060 – Submariner 40 mm
    116610LN -Submariner Date 40 mm

or something else? Is there anythine else I need to keep in mind, and if I do buy from Chuan, what is the likely discount I could push for, for the above models whether new or pre-owned (would it depend on the specific year of make i.e. newer watches more expensive?)

Could I also ask Chuan to give me pictures of the watch without the caseback, for example, prior to purchase to see if things look alright?

Thanks so much for your input in advance!

    • Brin,

The 116610LN will hold it’s price better as it is more mainstream.

If you buy from Chuan Watch you will probably be able to get a 5% discount as Submariners are very popular models.

I would NOT ask Chuan watch to open the caseback. Firstly, they are a reputable re-seller and secondly, you should avoid opening the back of the watch as much as possible.

Watches with complete box and papers will demand a higher price and generally the older the watch the lower the price.

  54. Hi Ray,

I am based in Brunei and am looking to buy the panerai 005.
My nearest option is singapore where the Panerai Boutique has placed
Me on a waiting list and they said even then there are no guarantees.
I find a new one on Chuan watch. My concerns are aftersales service
And I read that apparently I cannot bring it back to Richemont for servicing.
    What r your thoughts?

    • AK,

You will have no issues at all with buying from Chuan Watch. They will honour any warranty they give you and the PAM005 is not really a complicated watch.

I would buy the watch from Chuan Watch if I were you.

  55. Hey Ray, I’m actually quite fascinated by luxury watches I’ve recently looked into. I’m quite new to watches and i think the automatic ones seems cool. I’ve a budget of SGD 1000 and below. I’m currently eyeing the Tissot T086.408.16.051.00. Could you recommend me whether i should go ahead with buying this? or is there any other watches that you would recommend? budget would be around 1k, don’t mind spending a little more than that. Recommend me with a shop that would give discount. i need your advice please help me

    • Zach,

There are not that many automatic Swiss watches from a “reputable” brand that you can buy for under $1000 so your choice of the Tissot is fine.

You can get them from Watches of Switzerland. You can look for Momo at the Vivo City branch and tell her that I recommended you contact her. She should be able to give you a good deal.

Let me know how you go.

      Thanks / Raymon

  56. hi i would like to buy a new longines hydroconquest L3.642.4.56.6 in blue dial, could u recommend me a retailer or who to look for for a best discount? i went to cortina and they gave me 15% tops. Thank you!

    • Mervin,

You can try the smaller shops on the ground floor of Lucky Plaza or look for my friend Zes at watches of Switzerland in Paragon.

      Good luck.

  57. Hi ray, i am undecided on which watch to purchase. Longines Flagship L4.795.4.78.2, Tissot powermatic 80 chronometer T0864081605100 and Tag Heuer Aquaracer WAK2110.BA0830 are on my mind right now. I need your advice. Thanks.

    • MB,

I would go for the Longines as my first choice. I like the ‘pedigree’ of the brand – although it is now owned by the Swatch group.

The Tag would be number 3 on my list.

Let me know what you end up getting.

      Thanks / Raymon

    • Hi,
I have not come across any good replica or tribute Panerais in Singapore.
I always get mine from Thailand for about S$500. If you are interested, let me know and I will see what I can do to help.
      Regards / Raymon

  58. Hi Ray , I looking for a new watch for a gift for myself I looking for longnies hydro conquest chrono cause is within my budget any place I can a better discount or price you can recommend ?
Do you roughly have the price range ?

    Thanks in advance

    • Kokrui,
Try Watches of Switzerland or some of the smaller shops on the ground floor of Lucky PLaza.
Good luck and let me know how it goes.

  59. Hi i would like to ask if you know where can i get a brand new submariner 116610ln with at least a 10% discount because i saw a shop at jurong selling @ $9980 only.. after a week i went back and its sold already. Chuan is selling at 10.8 i doubt i can get more then 5% there.

    • Sean,

These things are hit and miss. I would try Carousell as well as I have been having a lot of luck there recently or this new chap Wilson at Watch Fusion.

Good luck and let me know how it goes.

  60. Hi ray,

Read a lot about you. Would appreciate very much if you could
advise me where is the best place to go and buy a new rolex watch
    model:116515 LN with good discount?

    • Hi Lee,

      Sorry for the slow response.

Have been super busy with work and neglecting what I love best. 🙂

I would try Chuan Watch or buy it at Singapore Airport duty free when you are leaving the country and pick it up on the way back.

That is what I do when I buying a popular Rolex model that dealers are not giving discounts for.

Please let me know how you go.

  61. Hi Ray,
I would like to get your opinion between a Rolex Lady Datejust and JLC Reverso. As this is my first luxury watch, I want to ensure that it is a classic piece.

    For your kind advice.

    Many thanks,

  62. Hi Ray, i am on look out for a new watch but indecisive. Considering if i should decide between Tag Monaco Calibre 6 full black for abt $4k or Longines master collection arnd the same price. Would like something of slightly bigger case diameter for a lady’s wrist, something from 37m-40mm. Making things worse, have thought of increase budget for a speedmaster chronograph 38mm 324.
Looking for new watch. What would you reckon? Do treasure your input if it’s worth upsize budget for an Omega

    • Leenda,

If you can increase your budget then it is a “no brainer”. Go for the Speedmaster. 🙂

One thing to bear in mind though is that all 3 watches that you have indicated do not generally hold their resale value but amongst the 3 the Omega will hold it value the best. Ladies watches, Tag’s and Longines are not very popular in the resale market – if this is your consideration when buying a watch.

The speedmaster borrows on the reputation of the Moonwatch – hence the value – but of course the watch that you are looking at is very different from a “real” Moonwatch.

From a styling perspective I would choose either the Omega or the Longines and ditch the idea of getting a Tag.

Hope this helps and good luck!

  63. Looking to purchase in Singapore Longines “La Grande Classique” ladies watch blue face/diamonds model L4.308.0.976. Where do you recommend for new watch with best discounts.

  64. Hey Ray, you are a fantastic resource for any watch lover. I’m in Singapore for few days only and I’m looking for a good deal in Oris (01 733 7653 4154-07 4 26 34EB) or a longines hydroconquest (L3.642.4.56.6) where would be the right place to be for the best price? Do you think I can get a 2nd hand speedmaster for the same price bracket? Please let me know.. Thanks a mil

    • Tolga,

So sorry. It looks like I missed your enquiry as I was travelling.

I hope you found what you are looking for.

  65. Hi Ray. I am interested in purchasing an Omega Seamaster
Where would be a good place to purchase – that’ll be able to offer a discount?

  66. Hi Ray
Im looking for Perpetual Calendar MoonPhase types of watches.
What can you recommend to me and suggest to go where to buy in singapore?
Budget i shall not put in my concern, impt will be value, reliability and design.
I do have a few like in IWC, PP and JLC but do not know how the market response on those brands
    and others.

    • Thanks Wilson.

Moon Phases are NOT that popular and do not hold their re-sale value but like I always say on my blog, if you are buying a watch, but what YOU like so if I were looking for a moon phase I would go for an IWC as I like their more modern and cleaner lines.

  67. Hi Ray, going in April to Singapore and would like to check the prices of new or pre owned Oris watches. Which places would you recommend?

    • John,

Oris watches are NOT that popular overall so there are not really any dealers where you can find a huge variety in Singapore.

Sorry I could not be of more help and my apologies for the slow response.

  68. Hi Ray,
Stumbled upon your blog while researching on Rollies. I’m keen on the 114060 but unfortunately, there’s a price adjustment across Subs. as such, I’ve stumbled on Chuan which is offering 8k+ for a preowned piece.
my budget is about btw 6-7k, not sure if you’ve any suggestions here. tia

    • Joshua,

Chuan watch prices are pretty reasonable so I doubt if you can get something similar for a lower price elsewhere.

      Regards / Raymon

  69. Hi Ray,

Chanced upon your blog and am amazed by your knowledge of watches! I am a fan of watches as well (just casual ones at the moment) and am working towards getting my first luxury watch!

Have been a fan of DSSD 116660 for a long time until D’Blue came out in late 2014. I remembered the difference between the 2 in 2014 was a few hundred dollars but recently when i checked the prices again, it was almost a SGD 3K difference! Kind of hard to stomach such a price hike if I were to consider the D’Blue and for that price (SGD 19K), I could possibly get a Daytona (116520) for even a lower price?

Guess I would still take the regular DSSD at the end of the day. What’s your view? I also like the Hulk (black dial) and PAM526. But DSSD is still at the top of my list…

    • Dear “Dreamer”,

I always say he same thing to such enquiries, please buy what you like as you are the one that is going to have to wear it and be comfortable.

      Regards / Raymon

  70. Hi Ray

Looking to buy an omega sea master 300 master co-axial and a jlc grande reverso 976. Where do you think is a good place (AD) to buy in Singapore ? And do you think they would be able to offer an discount?

  71. hi Ray,
i’m looking at PLANET OCEAN 600 M OMEGA CO-AXIAL 45.5 MM preowned. how much and % off after retail price you think for a good price? Thanks

  72. What’s Happening i’m new to this, I stumbled upon this I have found It absolutely helpful and it has helped me out loads.
I am hoping to give a contribution & aid other customers like
    its aided me. Good job.

  73. Hi Raymond,
I am looking at getting a watch for my wife and narrowed down to Tissot because I was looking for Swiss made automatic <S$1500. (I will also take the chance to buy a matching guy watch)
I have furthered narrowed down to 2 choices within Tissot:
    1) Tissot Titanium Automatic T087. but would prefer metal bracelet instead of the default leather strap, or
    2) Tissot Luxury Automatic COSC T086.

I prefer Luxury Automatic but am worried about the weight. Can I replace the leather bracelet with the titanium bracelet?
Can you recommend a shop with good price? what price would I expect for the Luxury COSC version? What discount would I expect off the list price?

    • ST,

I think it will be a challenge finding a titanium bracelet to replace the leather one.

Go to Watches of Switzerland at Vivo City and look for Momo and tell her that I sent you.

Possible discounts of up to 30% depending on watch model.

Good luck and sorry for the slow response.

  74. Hello Raymond,
I am looking at buying a ladies’ dress watch, gold tone or partially gold tone. Wearable but with good appreciation rate. Budget $5000. I wear a ladies’ silver Tag Heuer 24/7. I am looking at both Rolex and Patek Philippe. Would like to hear your advise. Additionally, how is HJ watch compared with Chuan Watch.
    Thanks in advance,

    • Yiling,

I would buy a Rolex if I wanted a watch that held it’s value.

HJ is fine except that I find their watches a bit rough. Chuan Watch repair, polish or clean their watches better so they present better and makes you feel you have a “new” watch.

      Just my opinion.

      Regards and good luck.

  75. Hello Ray,

Was searching for getting a killer deal on Tag in Singapore and lo behold! Google redirected to your blog. Planning to buy TAG HEUER CARRERA (REF: WAR201C.FC6266) and was wondering
    A) Where to buy from in Singapore? (Not inclined to buy a pre-owned)
    B) What kind of discount “price reduction” should I expect?

    Many thanks

    • JM,

      Sorry for the tardy response.

Go to Watches of Switzerland at Vivo City and look for Momo.

      Tell her I sent you.

  76. Hi Ray ,

I am looking for pre-owned Cartier Santos 100 large. Some pre-owned are only comes with watch only without Certs and box, may I know would you recommend to purchase it ? And which shop is good reputation where I can purchase it ? Thank you !

    • Edward,

Yes it is ok to buy a watch without paperwork or a box as long as you are sure it is genuine. I do so very often and always get a better price for a watch without paperwork.

Chuan Watch is the place to go if you want to get a Santos 100

      • Hi Ray ,

but as is my first time purchase of luxury watch not very sure on the authenticity , most pre-owned watch shop will guarantee authentic the watch and refund if found not ?

The chances of getting non authentic watches is it high if from pre-owned shop ?

        Thanks again

  77. Hi,
Im going to singapore next month and wondering where can i get rolex gmt 2 16710 mint condition. Tried checking chuan watch website but theyr already sold out. Are ther any other recomended reliable store? Since im not really experience enough to spot frankenwatch.
    Thanks, really appreciates the help

    • Hi Chris,

Go down to The Bencoolen at 180, Bencoolen Street. You should be able to get what you need there and any of the shops there are safe.

You will want to check new prices as well and bear in mind that if you are a visitor to Singapore, you get an additional 5.5% GST / VAT rebate when you leave so that might make a new timepiece a little more attractive.

I hope this helps and if you have any more questions, just let me know.

  78. Hi Ray

I am looking for two watches as wedding present. Could you recommend models that fit the age group (female 29 & male 33) and hold value also? For brand, I prefer Rolex but if any other good recommendation also ok. My budget is about 20k for two.
Look forward to your valued advise. Thanks in advance!

    Best Regards

    • Rita,

      Sorry for the tardy response.

I would strongly recommend you go for the Rolex. Nice watches that hold their value.

      Regards / Raymon

  79. I am thinking of buying a brand new Penarai. Chuan Watch’s offerings are tempting as they are cheaper by the thousands. I asked about warranty and they said Panerai will honor the warranty card. I’m sceptical unless they really have the cards stamped by an authorised dealer like second hand ones. Do you have any experience / advice?

    • JN,
You can trust what Chuan says. Also, I have NEVER in my life and experience heard of a PAM needing to be repaired or serviced during the warranty period if used “normally”.
      I hope this answer helps.
      Good luck / Raymon

  80. hi Ray…
I am looking to buy a hulk.
    Chuan has 1 at sgd12850.
AD is selling 1 for sgd12150 however I will need to wait many moons to get hold of 1. Should I go for it…
Also do they give the actual AD’s receipt to us for warranty?
Of rather do I need a receipt if I need Rolex to service the watch.

    • Jay,
You can pay a little more to get one now or wait a bit and save a few hundred dollars. That is a decission you will have to make yourself. 🙂
No you will NOT need the original receipt to get the watch serviced / repaired by Rolex.
      Regards / Raymon
